Design Inspiration:
Inspired by the Zhayi (ceremonial robe) patterns worn by empresses of the Song Dynasty, such as those seen in the portrait of Empress Liu E (Empress Zhangxian Mingsu of Emperor Zhenzong) and other Song imperial consort depictions.
Cultural Significance:
The Zhiao bird (Imperial Pheasant) is regarded as the prototype of the phoenix and symbolizes the heavens in ancient Chinese culture. It represents auspiciousness, prosperity, peace, and harmony, as well as conjugal love. When featured on imperial robes, it also conveys wishes for a bright future and great success.
Craftsmanship:
Woven using a six-layer weft technique—an intricate and refined process involving flower patterning, warp and weft preparation, and precise loom weaving. The resulting fabric is thick yet soft, with a strong, elegant drape and structure.
Each pouch features a YüHeBao (玉荷包) pendant — a jade carving in the form of a lucky pouch, carrying wishes of fortune and harmony. Its gentle luster and form recall the elegance of ancient artistry and the quiet dignity of the literati.
